Green Energy

Ohio is at the center of a national effort to develop renewable and advanced energy resources and energy conservation. Ohio's knowledge base in universities and research institutions, manufacturing infrastructure, and skilled labor force present an incredible opportunity for Ohio to be a leader of investment, innovation, manufacturing, and implementation of the green energy economy.

Ohio recently has enacted legislation to support vigorous growth of the green energy economy. S.B. 221 requires that electric utilities reach specific renewable energy and advanced energy benchmarks over the next fifteen years. At the end of this period, electric generation from alternate resources must equal 25% of the total electricity sold, much of it from Ohio resources.
