Mary Jo Hudson, Member
Mary Jo is a Member with the firm, and is a member of the Corporate practice group. Mary Jo practices in the areas of insurance regulatory compliance, health care law and general business matters.
Mary Jo represents clients on regulatory matters before executive branch regulatory agencies, as well as general corporate matters, for insurance and other financial service companies, health care and general business clients. Her practice includes a special focus on unclaimed property and market conduct audit defense of life insurance companies addressing potential death claims.
Mary Jo returns to Bailey Cavalieri LLC after completing four years of service as the 46th Director of the Ohio Department of Insurance and Cabinet member to Ohio Governor Ted Strickland. As Director, Mary Jo served as the Chair of the Ohio Health Care Coverage and Quality Council, as Chair of the Interstate Insurance Product Regulation Commission, and on the Executive Committee of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. Mary Jo is a frequent speaker on insurance related issues. Mary Jo also served on Columbus City Council from 2004 to 2007.
Prior to her service with the Department, Mary Jo practiced with Bailey Cavalieri since its founding, focusing on insurance regulation and liquidation law, consumer finance and retail law compliance, unclaimed property planning and reporting, commercial lending, state and federal advertising law, and general corporate matters. From 1989 to 1995, Mary Jo worked as an attorney with the Ohio Department of Insurance and as General Counsel for the Office of the Ohio Insurance Liquidator.
